The Northwood University baseball team finished its spring trip to Florida with a 7-4 win over defending NCAA Division II National Champion West Chester Friday afternoon (March 15).
The Timberwolves finish their spring trip with a 5-6 record. West Chester falls to 3-5-1 with the loss.
Northwood led 1-0 after the top of the first inning, only to see West Chester plate four runs to go up 4-1. But the Timberwolves controlled the rest of the game. Northwood scored three in the third, one in the fourth and single runs in the eighth and ninth to earn the win.
Jason Fracassa (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) led the Northwood offense, going 2-3 with a double and two RBI's. Travis Smith (Clare, Mich.) and Anthony Dipaolo (Northville, Mich./Divine Child) each added two hits for the Timberwolves as well. Junior starter Andrew Joseph (Sylvania, Ohio/Owens CC)) settled down after giving up four in the first inning to pitch into the seventh inning. He allowed four runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out four.
Northwood is scheduled to travel to Central Michigan Tuesday (March 19) at 3:05 p.m.
