The Northwood University baseball team split a pair games at Malone Friday afternoon (March 29). Malone earned a 10-6 win in game one before the Timberwolves claimed a 5-2 win in game two.
Northwood is now 7-9 overall, 2-3 in the GLIAC. Malone stands at 9-12 overall, 2-6 in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves got off to a good start in game one, scoring four in the third and two more in the fourth to go up 6-2. Malone posted a pair of big innings in the fifth and the sixth to earn the comeback win, scoring five in the fifth and three in the sixth. Six different Timberwolves had one hit each in the contest.
Northwood scored in each of the first three innings of game two, scoring one in the first, two in the second and one more in the third to go up 4-2. NU rounded out the scoring in the sixth inning with a single run. Junior pitcher Andrew Joseph (Sylvania, Ohio/Owens CC) made that lead hold up, tossing a complete game to improve his record to 3-1 on the season. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits in seven innings of work. Jake Oard (Beaverton, Mich.) led the Northwood offense, going 3-4 with two RBI's and a run scored.
Northwood and Malone will finish the weekend series with a single game Saturday (March 30). First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
