The Northwood University baseball team finished their weekend series at Malone with a 11-5 win Saturday afternoon (March 30).
Northwood is now 8-9 overall, 3-3 in the GLIAC. Malone stands at 9-13 overall, 2-7 in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves took control of the game right away, plating five runs in the first inning. Four different NU players drove in runs in the inning. Malone cut the lead down to 5-3 in the bottom of the third inning, but the Timberwolves responded with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Northwood then scored one in the eighth and two in the ninth to put the game away.
Jake Oard (Beaverton, Mich.) led the way for the Northwood offense, going 4-6 with three RBI's and two runs scored. Andrew Fleming (Olivet, Mich. / Kellogg CC)) had two hits and two runs scored, as did Eric Altman (West Bloomfield, Mich./St. Clair). Cody Fenskie (St. Charles, Mich.) picked up the win on the mound, allowing three earned runs in seven innings of work while striking out six.
Northwood will host Walsh Tuesday afternoon (April 2). The doubleheader will get under way at 2 p.m.
