The Northwood University baseball team dropped a pair of games Tuesday afternoon (April 2) to Walsh University. The Cavaliers won game one 6-3 before posting an 11-2 victory in game two.
Northwood falls to 8-11 overall, 3-5 in the GLIAC. Walsh improves to 13-8 overall, 7-4 in the GLIAC.
Game one was scoreless heading into the third inning when Walsh put together what proved to be the key inning of the contest. The Cavaliers plated five runs, three of which came on a two-out double that broke the game open. The Timberwolves chipped away at the lead, eventually getting within three runs in the final inning, but that is as close as NU would get. Andrew Fleming (Olivet, Mich./Fleming) had two hits and an RBI to lead the Northwood offense.
The Timberwolves got on the board first in game two, thanks to an RBI single by Travis Smith (Clare, Mich.) in the first inning. But it was all Walsh from that point on, scoring the next 11 runs in the game. Fleming drove home the final run of the game in the seventh. For the second straight game, Fleming had two hits and an RBI.
Northwood will finish their series against Walsh with a single game Wednesday (April 3). First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
