The Northwood University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Wayne State Saturday afternoon (April 6). The Warriors won game one 13-7 before posting a 4-0 win in game two.
Wayne State stands at 18-10 overall, 9-4 in the GLIAC. Northwood falls to 9-13 overall, 4-7 in the GLIAC.
Game one was tied 1-1 heading into the top of the fourth inning when WSU broke the game open, plating nine runs. Northwood scored two in the fourth, two in the sixth and two more in the seventh but it was not enough. The Timberwolves could not overcome five errors and two passed balls in the contest. Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) had a home runs and three RBI's to lead the way for the Timberwolves, while Eric Altman (West Bloomfield, Mich./St. Clair) had a hit and two RBI's.
In the second game, the game was scoreless until the Warriors plated two runs in the fourth. The score remained 2-0 through the seventh inning when WSU scored two more to extend their lead. All four Warrior runs were scored with two outs. Six different Timberwolves had one hit for Northwood. Junior Andrew Joseph (Sylvania, Ohio/Owens CC) took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings of work.
The two teams will finish their weekend series with a single game Sunday (April 7) at Noon.
