The Northwood University baseball team earned a 1-0 win at Hillsdale Wednesday afternoon (April 10).
The contest was the part of what was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader, but game two was suspended due to weather. The game will be resumed in Midland on Wednesday (April 17) with the Chargers leading Northwood 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
Northwood stands at 10-14 overall, 5-8 in the GLIAC. Hillsdale is 12-16 overall, 5-10 in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves plated the lone run of the contest in the top of the fifth inning. After Hillsdale's Kris Morris retired the first 12 batters of the game, Northwood's Travis Smith (Clare, Mich.) led off the inning with a single. He then scored on a double by Eric Altman (West Bloomfield, Mich./St. Clair), which proved to be the only run of the game.
The story of the contest proved to be starting pitcher Jordan Snider (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn). He opened the game by allowing a double and a bunt single to the first two batters of the contest, but got out of the jam and was dominant the rest of the way. He allowed one walk and no hits the rest of the way. He finished the game with six strikeouts in the complete-game effort.
Northwood will travel to Ashland Saturday (April 13). The doubleheader will get under way at 1 p.m.
