Baseball Drops Pair At Ohio Dominican

The Northwood University baseball team dropped a pair of games at Ohio Dominican Saturday afternoon (April 27).  The Panthers earned a 5-4 win in game one before claiming an 8-3 win in the nightcap.

Northwood is now 15-20 overall, 10-14 in the GLIAC.  Ohio Dominican stands at 20-23 overall, 15-13 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves got out to a fast start in game one, thanks to a leadoff home run by senior Jake Oard (Beaverton, Mich.)  Zac Zoellner (Traverse City, Mich./Central) added a sac fly later in the inning to put the Timberwolves up 2-0.  But ODU responded with two runs in the first and then plated three more runs in the second.  The score remained 5-2 until the top of the seventh when Northwood rallied back.  Anthony Dipaolo (Northville, Mich./Divine Child) had an RBI single to make the score 5-3.  He scored later on a throwing error to cut the lead to one.  NU had the tying run on second base at the end of the contest but was unable to score him.  Dipaolo had two hits, a runs scored and an RBI, while Cody Rogers (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) had hits and two runs scored.

Game two saw Northwood plate a run in the first inning on a Dipaolo RBI single, but ODU took control of the contest in the bottom of the inning with four runs.  Northwood cut into the lead in the third on an RBI by Jason Fracassa (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson), only to see the Panthers respond immediately once again.  ODU scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score 7-2.  NU's final run of the game came in the fifth on an RBI double by Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.).  The Timberwolves out-hit the Panthers 14-12 and drew all four walks in the game, but NU stranded 14 runners in the game. Lee and Dipaolo each went 3-4 with an RBI, while Oard, Eric Altman (West Bloomfield, Mich./St. Clair), Fracassa and Andrew Fleming (Olivet, Mich./Kellogg CC) each finished with two hits.

The two teams will finish their weekend series with a single game Sunday (April 28).  First pitch is set for Noon.
