The Northwood University baseball team dropped a pair of games at Lake Erie Saturday afternoon (May 4). Lake Erie won game one 12-5 before posting a 4-1 victory in game two.
Northwood falls to 16-25 overall, 11-19 in the GLIAC. Lake Erie improves to 17-27 overall, 14-17 in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves plated three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth after trailing early to tie the game 5-5. But Lake Erie responded in the bottom of the fifth with a huge inning, scoring seven runs to earn the win. Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) led the way for the Northwood offense, finishing with three hits, a double, two RBI's and a run scored.
Lake Erie kept the momentum going in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Timberwolves lone run of the contest came in the seventh inning on a Zyke Bailey (Taylor, Mich./HS Truman) single. Sean Cunningham (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills) settled down after a rocky start to the game to allow one run over his final five innings of work.
Northwood will finish its season tomorrow with a single game against Lake Erie. First pitch is set for Noon.
