RECAP: Northwood uses steady scoring and another strong start from Jandron to defeat Ashland 10-6 and finish the Florida trip winning ten out of 13.

  • The Timberwolves were on the board in the top half of the first after Connor Foley lead off with a single. After two free passes, the bases were loaded for Javier Martinez who was hit by a pitch, scoring Foley. Northwood, however, left the bases loaded and settled for just the one run in the frame.
  • Northwood came right back in the top of the second and manufactured a run. With two down in the inning, Foley reached on an error, the next batter was David Vinsky who sent one to the right centerfield gap and with Foley running on the pitch, he scored easily from first, and Northwood was up 2-0.
  • Ashland responded with two runs in the home half of the second after a pair of singles to start the inning that both came around to score, tying the game at two apiece.
  • After two outs in the top of the third, Kyle Ziegler single handedly put Northwood in front 3-2. Ziegler reached on an infield single. He then swiped second safely, and a couple of pitches later broke for third and in the midst of stealing third, the throw from Ashland's catcher bounced passed the third baseman and into left field, allowing Ziegler to cruise home for the Timberwolves.
  • After no score in the fourth, Northwood held the 3-2 advantage heading to the fifth. With one out in the frame, Javier Martinez hit a deep fly ball out to centerfield that barely stayed in the yard and resulted in a double. After a bunt single by Kyle Ziegler, Richie O'Neil stepped in as a pinch hitter and hit a line-shot through the right side for an RBI single scoring Martinez and NU took the 4-2 lead.
  • Connor Foley lead off the top of the sixth with a double to left field and eventually scored on a Ryan McClelland sacrifice fly to right field, extending the lead to 5-2 heading to the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Timberwolves scratched one more across in the top of the eighth to bolster the lead to four at 6-2. Robert Spencer lead off with a single up the middle, Brian Dombrowski laid down a beautiful bunt and beat the throw to first. After an Ashland throwing error on a pick-off attempt, NU had runners at the corners when Foley grounded into a double play that scored Spencer from third.
  • Ashland cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the eighth by taking advantage of a couple Northwood fielding mistakes and plating a pair, tightening the score to 6-4 heading to the ninth.
  • With a two run lead in the top of the ninth, the Timberwolves tallied a four spot to pull in front by six, 10-4. Pulver started the rally with a one out double to the right center gap, followed by a Martinez single and a Ziegler walk, Northwood had the bags loaded. Miles Hardy walked to bring home one run, then Spencer singled home Travis Janes who had pinch ran for Martinez, followed by a two RBI single by Brian Dombrowski.
  • Ashland scored two in the home half of the ninth but it was not enough as Northwood shut the door to preserve the 10-6 win.

  • Northwood's ten runs were batted in by six different players; Brian Dombrowski was the only player for Northwood with more than one RBI, as he finished with two.

"Today was a very solid finish to a very good trip. We learned a lot about our team. We still have plenty of room to improve but we are learning more and more how to really compete. We will be excited to get back to work as we prepare for GLIAC play."
