MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball team has been picked to finish second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) by the coaches in its annual preseason poll, the league announced Thursday (February 8).
Northwood had 41 points in the poll and four first place votes. Wayne State was picked to finish first with 44 points (three first place votes), with Grand Valley State standing in third at 39 points (one first place vote).
In addition, the Timberwolves have been ranked No. 14 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) preseason poll. NU is the only team from the GLIAC ranked in the poll. Northwood has been nationally ranked in three different preseason polls (No. 11 – Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, No. 13 perfectgame.org).
Northwood finished the 2017 season 46-13 overall, 26-6 in the GLIAC. NU won the GLIAC Championship by four games before claiming the GLIAC Tournament title. The Timberwolves reached the regional final in their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
