Men's Basketball Falls At Ferris State 83-71

The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped an 83-71 contest at Ferris State Thursday night (February 14).

Northwood, whose four-game winning streak came to an end, is now 10-12 overall, 9-9 in the GLIAC.  Ferris State improves to 13-9 overall, 12-6 in the GLIAC.

The opening half was close until the final media timeout.  The score was tied 22-22 with just under five minutes remaining in the half FSU went on a big run. The Bulldogs scored 12 straight points in less than two minutes and eventually out-scored the Timberwolves 19-4 the rest of the half to take a 41-26 lead to the locker room.  Ferris State shot 56.7 percent from the floor in the half (17-30), compared to 37.0 percent for the Timberwolves (10-27).

NU came out strong early in the second half, scoring the first eight points in just over three minutes to make the score 41-34.  But the Bulldogs responded right away, pushing the lead back to 50-36.  Northwood got no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

For the game, Northwood finished at 48.1 percent from the floor (26-54), thanks in large part to going 16-27 in the second half (59.3 percent). FSU finished at 51.7 percent overall (31-60), 40.0 percent from 3-point range (4-10) and 81.0 percent from the foul line (17-21).

Andrew VanDierenDonck (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) led all scorers in the game, netting a season-high 23 points.  Darvin Ham (Saginaw, Mich./Bridgeport) finished with 18.

Northwood will host Grand Valley State Saturday (February 16).  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
