The Northwood University men's soccer team fell to Saginaw Valley State 2-0 Wednesday afternoon (September 25).
Northwood is now 2-3 on the season, 2-2 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley improves to 5-1-1, 4-0 in the GLIAC with the win.
Neither team could get much going in the first half, entering halftime scoreless. Both keepers recorded two saves and Northwood had the advantage in corner kicks with one in the openinng 45 minutes of play.
The action started to heat up midway through the second half. Saginaw Valley was the first to get on the board on a header from Taylor Clarke in the 76th minute. From that point, the game became more physical. The Cardinals netted the final goal of the match from a penalty kick, by Lachlan Savage.
For the game, Saginaw finished with a 13-4 advantage in shots and 4-2 in corner kicks. Northwood keeper, Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark/Tornbjerg) recorded six saves in the match.
Northwood will return to action on Friday (September 27) at home against Ohio Dominican following the women's game at noon.
