The Northwood University men's soccer team earned a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ohio Dominican Friday afternoon (September 22).
Northwood improves to 3-3 overall, 3-2 in the GLIAC. Ohio Dominican falls to 3-2-1 overall, 2-2 in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves jumped out to a quick lead, netting the first goal of the contest just 1:34 in. Gino Pasquali (Shelby, Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) beat the keeper down the right side from 18 yards out for his team-leading third goal of the season. Adam Thomas (High Wycombe, England) earned the assist to put Northwood up 1-0. That goal proved to be lone tally of the opening half. Stats at the break were even – NU held a 5-4 advantage in shots while ODU had a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
Both defenses maintained the advantage for the majority of the second half as well until the final minutes when the offenses came alive. Ohio Dominican leveled the game at the 85:14 mark, but Northwood responded just 24 seconds later. After a mad scramble out front, Pasquali found a loose ball in the box on the left side of the net to put Northwood back on top 2-1. The goal proved to be the game winner.
The final stats proved to be extremely even. Ohio Dominican finished with an 11-10 edge in shots for the game, while Northwood had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Keeper Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark/Tornbjerg) made four saves to earn his third win of the season.
Northwood will host Findlay Sunday afternoon (September 29). Match time is set for 2:30 p.m.
