The Northwood University men's soccer team improve to 4-3, 4-2 in the GLIAC with a 2-1 win over the Findlay Oilers Sunday afternoon (September 29).
Findlay falls to 2-5-1 overall, 0-5 in the GLIAC.
The Oilers were the first to get on the board with what proved to be their lone goal of the match. Northwood netted the equalizer just before half (44:34) with a goal from Gino Pasquali (Shelby Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) assisted by Dalton Amez (Macomb, Mich./Chippewa Valley). The Timberwolves held an advantage statistically with seven shots to Findlay's four and the only three corner kicks of the first half.
Possession was fairly equal throughout the second half until Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich./ Niagara) scored the go-ahead goal off a beautiful cross from Laurence McKay (Grimsby, England) in the 77th minute. The Timberwolves were able to hold off multiple last-minute scoring attempts that the Oilers formed to come away with their fourth victory in the GLIAC.
Stats proved the match to be relatively equal, with Northwood having the advantage in shots (16-12) and each team tallying three corner kicks. Northwood's goalkeeper Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark/Tornbjerg) recorded four saves in the match.
Northwood will travel to play at Tiffin on October 6 at 2:30 p.m.
