The Northwood University men's soccer team play to a 2-2 draw at Malone Sunday afternoon (October 13).
Northwood is now 4-5-1 overall, 4-4-1 in the GLIAC. Malone is 2-8-1, 1-7-1 in the GLIAC with the tie.
The Timberwolves got on the board early, netting the first goal of the match at just 6:01. Sophomore Adam Thomas (High Wycombe, England/John Hampden) netted his first goal of the season chesting a diagonal pass from Liam MacHugh (Toronto, Canada/Neil McNeil) and chipping a shot to beat the keeper. Malone countered with a score of their own at 16:53 to enter halftime 1-1. Malone had the advantage in shots for the first half with six to NU's five.
Northwood took the lead at 51:43 off a penalty kick by Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) but Malone scored the equalizer with just seconds remaining in the second half (89:44) to send the match to overtime. Again, the Pioneers lead in shots 10-9 over Northwood in the second half.
Extra time proved to be extremely equal, remaining scoreless for two extra periods. Both recorded three shots in the first overtime, while Malone take the advantage in the second ten minutes with four shots to NU's two.
For the match, Malone held the advantage in shots (23-19) and corner kicks (9-3). Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark / Tornbjerg) tallied four saves in the double-overtime draw.
Northwood will host Lake Erie next Sunday (October 20). Match time is set for 2:30 p.m.
