PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Northwood University men's soccer team drops just a 1-0 contest at Lake Erie on Sunday afternoon (October 19).
The Timberwolves fall to 9-3-1 on the year, 7-3-1 in the GLIAC. The Strom improves to 7-4-2 overall and 6-3-2 in the GLIAC.
Northwood started a five-game winning streak against Lake Erie back on October 3 with a 1-0 win. Since then, NU has scored 15 goals while allowing just four. Offense was hard to come by in the opening period, as the Storm outshot the Timberwolves 5-4 with the only shot on goal being in the 40th minute for Lake Erie.
As the match remained scoreless entering the second half, Adam Thomas (High Wycombe, England / John Hampden) put a shot on goal at 50:06. Trailing 1-0 off a connected corner kick in the 72nd minute, Northwood's only legitimate chance to tie the match came in the 80th minute when Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Chippewa Valley) made the keeper work for another save.
For the match, Lake Erie held the advantage in shots (9-7) and corner kicks (5-2). The Storm was the more aggressive team with a total of 16 team fouls, to just six for Northwood.
