The Northwood University men's soccer team has been ranked fifth in the NCAA Midwest Region in the inaugural poll of the 2014 season, which was released Wednesday afternoon (October 22).
The top five teams in each region will qualify for the NCAA Tournament, with the top two overall seeds earning the right to host opening rounds.
Northwood, which is currently 9-3-1 overall (8-3-1 in the Midwest Region), trails Saginaw Valley (10-1-2 overall, 10-1-2 in the region), Quincy (14-0-1 overall, 14-0-1 in the region), Drury (12-2 overall, 11-2 in the region) and Tiffin (10-2-1 overall, 10-2-1 in the region).
The Timberwolves will be tested in the final three matches of the season, facing a No. 4 regionally-ranked team in Tiffin on Friday (October 24). The Dragons earned a 2-0 win in the first meeting back on Sept. 28. Northwood will also play host to the top team in the Midwest Region the following week, as the Timberwolves square off against Saginaw Valley on Halloween (October 31) for the final regular season match. NU held the Cardinals to a 0-0 draw on Sept. 12.
