The Northwood University men's soccer team placed a pair of players on the Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team Monday afternoon (November 24).
Senior defender, Michael Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) and junior midfielder Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Chippewa Valley / Niagara) earned First Team honors. The Daktronics Player of the Year award and all-region teams are nominated and selected by the region's sports information directors. All First-team honorees advance to the All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected.
Ankoviak was also named First Team All-GLIAC, as he was instrumental being Northwood's best defender on a team that allowed just 13 goals in the first 18 matches of the season. He registered five goals, including two game-winners which is tied for 11th in the GLIAC, despite being a defender. Ankoviak started all 19 matches this season.
Levock led the team in goals (9) including two game-winners and points (21). He finished as 2nd in the GLIAC in goals and fourth in points. Levock was instrumental as Northwood's best attacker on a team that scored 39 goals in the season. Levock has started all 34 games in his career.
The Timberwolves finished the season as the 2014 GLIAC Tournament Champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history as the No. 2 ranked team in the Midwest Region. NU was ranked as high as #15 in the country throughout the season.
