UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – The Northwood University indoor track and field teams traveled to Saginaw Valley State for the 2015 Jet's Pizza Invitational on Saturday (January 31).
No team scoring was taken in the meet, which featured athletes from Northwood, Saginaw Valley State, Lake Superior State, Ferris State, Wayne State, Alma, Davenport, Aquinas, Oakland, Macomb, Detroit Mercy and Michigan State University Club.
A handful of Timberwolves made a mark in the Northwood record book, as sophomore Claudia Coleman (Keller,Tx / Fossil Ridge (NU-Texas)) won the 200 meter dash and now owns the second fastest mark in school history at 25.60 – behind Danielle Miller at 24.54. Her time is also good for top ten in the GLIAC and just shy of an NCAA provisional mark of 25.06. Sophomore Jennifer McKenna (Orchard Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) placed eighth in the mile and also made her way into school history, running a 5:17.85 – good for sixth fastest at Northwood. Running the seventh fastest 5K at Northwood was junior Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie). Her time of 18:50.88 was a personal best as she finished 16th overall.
On the men's side, Rayvaun Tyler (Orlando, Fla. / Oak Ridge) won the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.05, while Marcus Johnson (Center, Tx. / Center (NU-Texas)) ran a 7.11 for fourth and Jeremy Wilchcombe (Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges(NU-TX)) finished at 7.22 for sixth. Johnson also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.43, which is the 10th fastest in school history indoors. Grant Harris (Sebewaing, Mich. / Unionville-Sebewaing Area) earned an eighth place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.20, while Jon Thompson (Albuquerque, N. Mex. / NU-Texas) placed third in the long jump with a mark of 6.67 meters.
The Timberwolves will be back on the road next weekend, traveling to Hillsdale for the Wide Track Classic on February 6 and 7.
