ALMA, MICH. – The Northwood University track and field teams competed in the Alma College Charlie Gray Invitational on Friday afternoon (April 3).
The men finished tied with Hope for first place with 131. Josh Gardner won the 200 at 22.60 and ran 11.41 in the 100 meter dash for a second place finish. Kyle Vandersyde (Hopkins, Mich.) and Jordan Fields (Lauderhill, Fla. / Blanche Ely) took first and second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.98 and 16.42, respectively. Fields finished third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.64. Mike Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) took fourth in the 200 with a time of 23.28. Karmine Jarmon (Chicago, Ill. / Simeon) ran 51.05 in the 400 meter dash good for fourth place, while John King (Mesick, Mich.) followed in fifth at 51.12.
Northwood's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams both took first place. Jeremy Wilchcombe (Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges(NU-TX)), Ankoviak, Rayvaun Tyler and Gardner ran 41.85 in the 4x100; while the team of Jarmon, Wilchcombe, King and Ankoviak ran 3:27.88 on the 4x400 meter relay team.
The women finished win fifth place with 85 points. The team of Elaina Meadows (Schoolcraft, Mich.), Claudia Coleman (Keller,Tx / Fossil Ridge (NU-Texas)), Dana Turner (Maywood, Ill. / Walther Lutheran) and Kara Young (Zephyrhills, Fla.) won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 49.58.Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) finished third in the 5,000 at 18:23.55. Chloe Theil (Plainwell, Mich.) was close behind in fifth clocking 19:20.81. Darci Asel Templin (Essexville, Mich. / Garber), Coleman, Young and Drew Findlay (Reese, Mich.) took third in the 4x400 meter relay at 4:19.74. Meadows won the long jump with a distance of 5.25 meters. Turner also jumped 4.72 meters for a fifth place finish in the long jump and recorded a mark of 9.80 meters in the triple jump good for second place. Junior Hunter Perry (Moran, Mich. / Rudyard) threw the discus 33.76 meters for second place and the hammer 35.34 meters for third place. Young ran 13.30 in the 100 meter dash for a fourth place finish. Asel-Templin took fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:01.65.
The Timberwolves host the annual Northwood Open on Saturday (April 11) with the meet starting at 11 a.m.
