Track and Field Teams Earn Top Finishes At Multiple Meets

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University track and field teams traveled to multiple meets over the weekend (April 23-25). Select student-athletes traveled to the 49th Annual Hillsdale College GINA Relays, the 2015 Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa and the Ernie Mousseau Track & Field Classic hosted by Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich.

GINA Relays

Nick Kaufman (Hemlock, Mich.) took fifth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 35:09. Dave Rowley (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) took sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:21. His brother, Tom Rowley (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) ran 10:53 for a tenth place finish. Tyler Jensen (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) finished the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:20 – good for the fourth fastest outdoor time in Northwood history.

Kip Janvrin Open

Rayvaun Tyler (Orlando, Fla. / Oak Ridge) took fifth in the men's 100 meter dash with a time of 11.16, while Jeremy Wilchcombe (Freeport, Bahamas / St. Georges(NU-TX)) finished eighth at 11.19. Mike Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) ran 22.52 in the 200 meter dash for seventh place.

Ernie Mousseau Classic

On the women's side, Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) won the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:46, while Chloe Theil (Plainwell, Mich.) finished fourth at 11:29. Kara Young (Zephyrhills, Fla.) took second in the 100 meter dash registering a time of 12.43 – third best in Northwood history. Claudia Coleman (Keller,Tx / Fossil Ridge (NU-Texas)) also recorded the third best time in at NU, finishing second and clocking 25.13 in the 200 meter dash, while Young finished fifth at 25.81. Taking second in the 1,500 meter run was Jennifer McKenna (Orchard Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) with a time of 4:54.04. Madison Arnouts (Grand Ledge, Mich.) took third in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:05.59, while Darci Asel Templin (Essexville, Mich. / Garber) ran 1:01.25 in the 400 meter dash for fifth place. Elaina Meadows (Schoolcraft, Mich.) took second in the long jump with a mark of 5.35 meters, as Dana Turner (Maywood, Ill. / Walther Lutheran) tied for seventh at 4.94 meters.

On the men's side, Jon Thompson (Albuquerque, N. Mex. / NU-Texas) finished second in the long jump with a jump of 7.05 meters. Thompson also jumped 12.77 meters in the triple jump for fourth place. Joey Davis (Fair Haven, Mich. / Algonac) finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.18. Paul Evans (Lenox, Mich. / New Haven) also earned a fourth place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 47.27 meters. John King (Mesick, Mich.) ran 50.70 in the 400 meter dash for fifth place, while Kyle Vandersyde (Hopkins, Mich.) also took fifth in the 110 meter hurdles at 15.77. The 4x100 meter relay team of Thompson, King, Jordan Fields (Lauderhill, Fla. / Blanche Ely) and Jalen Hodgson (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Parchment) finished third with a time of 42.63. NU's 4x400 meter relay team of King, Fields, Vandersyde and Payton Coffey (Carleton, Mich. / Carleton Airport) also took fourth, clocking 3:36.58.

The Timberwolves are set to compete in the GLIAC Championships next weekend (April 29-May 1) at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich.
