RECAP: Northwood splits pair of games on the final day of the Midwest Region Crossover, falling to McKendree 8-0 in six inning before posting a 6-4 win over Truman Sunday afternoon (February 26).

MCKENDREE/NORTHWOOD HIGHLIGHTS

  • McKendree set the tone for the game right away, leading 2-0 two batters into the bottom of the first inning after a hit batter and a home run.
  • The Bearcats made it 3-0 in the bottom of the second, which was the last run of the game until the late innings.
  • McKendree closed out the game with a big sixth inning, scoring five runs to earn the win.
  • Northwood was unable to get anything going in the game, managing two hits in the game.

  • It was Northwood who got out to the early lead against Truman, as a Riley Ostapowicz RBI double in the first inning scored Bartodziej to put NU on top 1-0.
  • The Bulldogs took the lead in the third inning on a two-run single that made the score 2-1.
  • Northwood put together the key inning of the game in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs despite not registering an extra base hit. NU had five singles and used an error by the Bulldogs to score their runs. Meghan Franz got the Timberwolves going with an RBI single, which was followed by two-run singles by Abby Joseph and Jennifer Wontorcik.
  • Truman would not go away, however, scoring one in the fifth and one in the sixth to cut the lead down to 6-4.
  • The Bulldogs got the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning, but Northwood's Taylor Wright closed out the game to give the Timberwolves the victory.
