The Northwood women's basketball team earned a 66-59 victory over Ohio Dominican Saturday afternoon (January 5).
Northwood is now 7-7 overall, 5-3 in the GLIAC. Ohio Dominican falls to 4-7 overall, 1-7 in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves scored the first five points of the game and would lead the rest of the way. Northwood's 34-20 lead at the break was the Timberwolves' biggest advantage of the half. NU shot 43.3 percent from the floor (13-30) and 50.0 percent from 3-point range (5-10) while holding ODU to 35.0 percent (7-20) and 0-1 from 3-point range.
Northwood controlled the majority of the second half, leading by as many as 25 in the second half. The lead was 62-38 with less than six minutes to go when Ohio Dominican went on a big run. The Panthers out-scored Northwood 21-3 over the next 5:30 to get the lead down to 65-59 with 33 seconds remaining. But that is as close as the Panthers got, giving Northwood the win.
The Timberwolves finished the game at 43.4 percent overall (23-53) and 43.8 percent from 3-point range (7-16). Ohio Dominican shot 44.0 percent (22-50) but committed eight more turnover than the Timberwolves.
Freshman Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) led Northwood, scoring a career-high 28 points. She was 9-19 from the floor, 5-11 from 3-point range and 5-6 from the foul line. Sophomore Sarah Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich./Byron Center) finished with 14 points, while freshman Jordyn Nurenberg (St. Johns , Mich.) finished with 12 points in her first career start.
Northwood will travel to Wayne State Thursday evening (January 10). Game time is set for 8 p.m.
