Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukraine), a sophomore outside hitter for the Northwood University volleyball team, earned First Team All-America honors from the AVCA Monday (December 3).
Pakhomenko is the first player at Northwood to earn the honor since Gorana Maricic (2005) and the 14th player overall in program history to earn All-America honors.
Pakhomenko stepped right into the Northwood lineup in her first year on the team and became a dominant force for the Timberwolves. The 2012 GLIAC Player of the Year, she finished the season ranked among the GLIAC leaders in kills (476 - second), kills per set (4.14 – second), aces per set (.50 – first), and attack percentage (.274 – ninth). Pakhomenko, who also claimed GLIAC Tournament MVP honors, registered at least 10 kills in 26 of 32 matches played and reached 19 kills on eight different occasions. She also was a major contributor to the Northwood defense this season as well, finishing with at least 10 digs 16 times. A five-time GLIAC North Division Player of the Week this season, Pakhomenko led Northwood to the GLIAC Championship and GLIAC Tournament titles.
Northwood finished the season 26-7 overall, 17-1 in GLIAC play.
