EVANSVILLE, IND. – The Northwood University volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 wins Saturday (September 5), defeating Southwest Baptist (25-16, 25-21, 25-20) and Kentucky Wesleyan (25-18, 25-10, 25-16).
Northwood is now 2-2 on the year. Southwest Baptist is 1-2, while Kentucky Wesleyan is 0-4.
The matches were a part of the Dunn Hospitality Invitational, hosted by Southern Indiana.
Northwood opened up a 9-3 lead in the opening set of the Southwest Baptist match and never looked back. The Timberwolves were efficient on offense, hitting at least .226 in all three sets to finish at .322 overall (39-11-87). That total included a .565 (14-1-23) mark in the third set. NU also held Southwest Baptist to a .083 mark (25-18-84).
Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) and Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) led the way for Northwood, each finishing with 10 kills. Getty ended up with 10 kills on 19 attempts (.474) and eight digs, while Kramer hit .350 (10-3-20) and added a team-high 11 digs.
The Timberwolves continued their strong play against Kentucky Wesleyan thanks to a strong defensive effort. The Panthers hit .000 in all three sets, finishing at 7-7-36 in the first, 5-5-32 in the second and 4-4-21 in the third. Meanwhile, Northwood ended up at .260 overall, which included a .367 mark in the second set (14-3-30).
Kramer continued her strong start to the 2015 season, finishing with 11 kills and 12 digs to lead Northwood. Chelsea Watson (Bowling Green, Ohio/Niagara U.) and Meghan Cleary (Howell, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy) both ended up with seven kills for the Timberwolves.
Northwood will travel to the Lindenwood Tournament next Friday-Saturday (Sept. 11-12). NU will open play at the event with a match versus Emporia State Friday at 1 p.m.
