KAYTE ASPRAY

Contributor

1974-2012

Kayte Aspray is one of the greatest supporters of Northwood University athletics. Her career at Northwood spanned 39 years in a variety of roles across the University. She became directly involved in athletics when she served as the Northwood Faculty Athletic Representative for many years. A beloved member of the campus community, Aspray's greatest contribution to Northwood athletics was unconditional support for all athletes, coaches and athletic staff members. In honor of her contributions to Northwood athletics, the department created the Kayte Aspray Faculty/Staff Pack Pride award, given annually to a member of the Northwood family who goes above and beyond for Timberwolf athletics.

BUD HETHER

Baseball

1968-69

Bud Hether stands as the best player from the early days of the Northwood baseball team. He finished the 1969 season hitting .417, which still stands as the sixth-highest batting average in school history. As one of just two seniors on the team in 1969, Hether posted 38 hits in 28 games, averaging close to 1.5 hits per game. Hether held most of the offensive school records at the end of his career. He then became the first athlete in Northwood history to be drafted in the Major League Baseball Draft, being selected by the Detroit Tigers as the 115th overall pick during the fifth round. Hether went on to play a pair of seasons in the minor leagues in the Detroit organization.

SAM JONES

Men's Basketball

1996-2000

Sam Jones was one of the top players on some of the best teams in Northwood history. He finished his career ranking first in program history with 256 steals and third with 414 assists. His 163 assists in the 1998-99 season is the third-most for a player at Northwood. In the first three years of his career, Northwood posted 58 victories, the best three-year stretch in school history. Jones was a key part of two GLIAC North Division Championships and the NCAA Tournament team in 1998-99.

Her junior season is arguably the best individual season in program history, as she set school records for points (501) and rebounds (309) in a season while leading all of Division II with 22 double-doubles. A two-time Women's Athlete of the Year winner at the Northwood Timby Awards as well as a two-time First Team All-GLIAC performer, Nurenberg's name appears a total of 21 times throughout the record book.
