RECAP: The Division I hockey team split their opening weekend against Davenport with a 2-1 overtime victory on Friday evening (September 19) and falling 4-3 on Saturday evening (September 20). 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Davenport came out strong, outshooting the Timberwolves 14-7 in the first period.
  • The Panthers capitalized midway through the second period with a short-handed goal to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Northwood tied the game to 1-1 in the third period on a goal from defender Alex Blankenship, assisted by Jacob McLellan and Samuel Assinewai.
  • In overtime, Owen Croston netted the game-winner to win 2-1, with Jacob McLellan picking up his second assist of the night.
  • Timberwolves goalie Mason Matthew stood tall, stopping 40 of 41 shots faced.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Davenport struck quickly, scoring within the first five minutes to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Both teams played tight defense in the second period, each limiting the other to seven shots.
  • Early in the third, Alex Bedenko scored twice in quick succession. His first came on a power play, assisted by Adam Moule, and his second followed just two seconds later off a feed from Colin March to put Northwood ahead 2-1.
  • Owen Croston scored his second goal of the season to extend the Timberwolves' lead to 3-1 with an assist by Chase Temple.
  • Davenport responded late, scoring a power-play goal with three minutes remaining before adding two more in the final minute to complete the comeback to win 3-4.
