D1 Hockey Dropped Two Close Games Against Hope

RECAP: The Division 1 hockey team dropped two close games against Hope College over the weekend. The Timberwolves fell 4-3 on the road Friday night (October 3) and 3-2 at home Saturday afternoon (October 4). 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS  

  • Hope struck first eight minutes into the opening period, but Northwood responded as Cameron Duffey tied the game 1-1 off an assist from Samuel Assinewai. 

  • The second period saw a flurry of scoring. Hope regained the lead early, but a goal from Bryce Garber, assisted by Jacob McLellan and Alex Bedenko, brought it back to 2-2. The Flying Dutchman quickly answered with another goal, then added a power-play goal to take a 4-2 lead into the third. 

  • With five minutes remaining, Owen Croston scored on a power-play to cut the deficit to one, making the score 4-3. Northwood pulled goaltender Peter Baldwin in the final minutes but couldn't find the equalizer.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS  

  • Both teams were held scoreless in a tight first period, with Mason Matthew keeping Hope off the board early. 

  • Hope broke through eight minutes into the second period to take a 1-0 lead. Bedenko tied the game at 1-1 with assists from James Sigmon and Bryce Garber, but the Flying Dutchman responded to go up 2-1 before the second intermission. 

  • Hope extended their lead to 3-1 with five minutes remaining in the third. Trevor Stenglein, assisted by Milos Todorovic and Sigmon, scored a power-play goal in the final minute, but the Timberwolves ran out of time.
