D1 Hockey Suffers Two Tough Losses To Calvin

RECAP: The Division 1 hockey team lost both games over the weekend to Calvin University, losing 6-3 away on Friday night (October 17) and falling 6-1 at home on Saturday afternoon (October 18). 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS  

  • Cameron Duffany opened the scoring just twenty seconds into the first period, giving the Timberwolves an early 1-0 lead. However, the Knights responded quickly, ending the period with a 2-1 advantage. 

  • Calvin carried that momentum into the second, adding two more goals within the first ten minutes, which included one on a power play, to extend their lead to 4-1. Duffany struck again for Northwood, converting a power play off a pass from Leo Crawford to cut the deficit to 4-2. But Calvin answered with another power play goal of their own, taking a 5-2 lead into the final period. 

  • Teagan Scheurer sparked a potential comeback with a power play goal just one minute into the third, narrowing the gap to 5-3. Calvin quickly shut down the momentum with an immediate response, restoring their three-goal lead at 6-3. Despite four power play opportunities late in the period, Northwood couldn't capitalize.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS  

  • Northwood got off to a hot start again, with Bryce Garber scoring just five minutes into the first period, assisted by Alex Bedenko and James Sigmond, giving the Timberwolves a 1-0 lead. 

  • Calvin then increased the pressure and broke through in the second period, scoring four goals to take a 4-1 lead, while the Timberwolves were unable to respond. 

  • The Knights added two more goals in the third period, shutting out Northwood for the final two periods. The game ended with a 6-1 victory for Calvin.
