RECAP: The Division 1 hockey team won their opening conference games against Western Michigan University over the weekend, with a 3-1 home win on Friday night (November 7) and 7-4 away win on Saturday night (November 8). 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS  

  • Northwood came out strong, opening the scoring just three minutes in to lead 1-0 with a goal from Angelo Massaro, assisted by Chase Temple and Nathan Ayuyu. A few minutes later, Donald Gooley extended the lead to 2-0, with Ayuyu and Massaro providing the setup. 

  • Early in the second period, the Timberwolves struck again as Lukas Nies found the back of the net off assists from Cameron Duffany and Colin March, giving Northwood a 3–0 advantage over the Stallions. 

  • The Stallions scored eight minutes into the third period to make it 3-1. 

  • Goaltender Peter Baldwin was able to stop twenty-four of the twenty-five shots he faced in the victory.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS  

  • The Stallions conceded first, with Leo Crawford assisting Owen Croston to give Northwood a 1-0 lead. Midway through the opening period, Collin Baker extended the Timberwolves' advantage to 2-0. Western Michigan responded later in the period to make it 2-1 after the first. 

  • The second period saw three penalties from each team, but neither side was able to capitalize on the power-plays. Just before the end of the period, the Stallions evened the score at 2-2. 

  • The third period turned into an offensive showcase, featuring seven total goals. Western Michigan struck early to take a 3-2 lead just two minutes into the period. Northwood answered when Donald Gooley scored a power-play goal, assisted by Jacob McLellan and Bryce Garber, to tie the game 3-3. Moments later, another power-play goal, this time from Robert Vanderdonck who was set up by Gooley and McLellan, put the Timberwolves ahead 4-3. 

  • The Stallions tied the game again at 4-4 midway through the period, but Northwood regained the lead at 5-4 just ten seconds later when McLellan scored, assisted by Colin March and Alex Blankenship. Vanderdonck then added an empty-net goal with one minute remaining, assisted by Trevor Stenglein and March, to make it 6-4. 

  • Just ten seconds later, the Timberwolves struck again as Leo Crawford scored, assisted by Milos Todorovic, to seal a 7-4 Northwood victory.
