D1 Hockey's Strong Offense Powers To Two Wins Over Roosevelt

SCORE: Northwood Timberwolves 7, Roosevelt Lakers 2 / Northwood 9, Roosevelt 3

LOCATION: The Edge Ice Arena – Bensenville, Illinois 

RECAP: The Division 1 hockey team had two away wins over the weekend against the University of Roosevelt, with a 7-2 win on Friday night (January 16) and a 9-3 win on Saturday afternoon (January 17). 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS  

  • Northwood jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period when Milos Todorovic found the back of the net. Roosevelt answered with a power play goal to tie the game at 1-1. The Timberwolves quickly responded, as Alex Bedenko set up Lukas Nies to regain the lead before Bryce Garber extended it to 3-1 with help from Chase Temple. 

  • Late in the second period, Northwood added two more goals to pull away. Teagan Scheurer scored first, assisted by Garber, followed by a goal from Temple to give the Timberwolves a 5-1 advantage. 

  • In the third period, Garber tallied his second goal of the night, assisted by Scheurer, to make it 6-1. Roosevelt once again capitalized on a power play to cut the deficit to 6-2, but Owen Croston answered with a goal of his own to seal a 7-2 victory for Northwood.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS  

  • Roosevelt came out strong, scoring twice in the first period to take an early 2-0 lead. 

  • The Timberwolves kept rolling in the final period, scoring five more times. Croston recorded two goals to complete a hat trick, with assists from Crawford and Cameron Duffany on one, and Jacob McLellan and Duffany on the other. Garber also completed his hat trick with a power-play goal assisted by Collin Baker. McLellan added a goal of his own, assisted by Duffany and Rivera, and Teagan Scheurer capped the scoring for Northwood with help from Bedenko. Roosevelt scored on a power play late in the third, but Northwood cruised to a 9-3 victory.
