RECAP: The Division 1 hockey team lost its opening match 1-0 in the ACHA National Championship against Utah University on Thursday morning (March 12) to end its season. 

ACHA FIRST-ROUND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS  

  • Northwood applied heavy pressure in the first period, firing fourteen shots on Utah's net, while goaltender Mason Matthew turned aside eight shots he faced. 

  • In the second period, Utah responded with increased pressure of their own, as Matthew made thirteen saves. Northwood recorded ten shots in the period. Both teams earned power-play opportunities, but neither was able to capitalize. 

  • Utah broke the deadlock early in the third period to take a 1-0 lead. Northwood pushed for an equalizer and even pulled their goalie for an extra attacker late, but Utah held on to secure the 1-0 victory.
