D3 Hockey Sweeps Central Michigan With Statement Wins

RECORDS: Northwood (9-3-0-0, 5-1-0-0 MCHC (MI) East), Central Michigan (4-8-1-0, 4-8-1-0 MCHC (MI) West)

RECAP: The Division 3 hockey team won both games against Central Michigan over the weekend, first winning 4-1 away on Friday (October 31) followed by a 9-0 win at home on Saturday (November 1). 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Northwood continued to apply pressure, adding two more goals to go up 4–0. Iavasile netted the first, assisted by Alex Katch, followed by Stempky's second of the night with help from White and Carter Remp. Central Michigan managed to get on the board late, but the Timberwolves secured a 4–1 victory.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS 

  • White opened the scoring early with two goals in the first period, both assisted by Kroll and Stempky, to give Northwood a 2–0 lead. Carter Temple then added another tally, with Colton LaRose and Boston Bennett picking up the assists, extending the lead to 3–0. 

  • Temple struck again early in the second period on a power play, assisted by Benjamin Wessel and LaRose, making it 4–0 in favor of the Timberwolves. Bennett followed with a goal of his own later in the period, set up by Temple and Adam Dunlap, pushing the lead to 5–0. 

  • Northwood continued to roll in the third. Iavasile found the back of the net with help from Evan Kennedy and Aidan French to make it 6–0. The Timberwolves then capitalized on two more power plays, Stempky scored from assists by Kennedy and French, and LaRose added another with assists from Bennett and Temple, to stretch the score to 8–0. 

  • Max Ciesielski capped off the dominant performance with his first goal of the season, assisted by Jerome Sciturro and Benjamin Bolen, sealing the 9–0 win. 

  • Goaltender Aidan Schultz was perfect in net, stopping all 27 shots he faced to earn the shutout.
