D3 Hockey's Offense Shines In Weekend Wins

OVERVIEW – Ferris State

RECAP: The Division 3 hockey team wins both games against Ferris State over the weekend, winning 7-0 away on Friday evening (January 30), followed by a 12-3 win at home on Saturday afternoon (January 31). 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Northwood opened the scoring in the first period with a power-play goal from Konnor White, assisted by Cade Sanborn and Sebastiano Iavasile, to take a 1-0 lead. The Timberwolves doubled their advantage later in the period when Max Ciesielski scored on another power play, with assists from Iavasile and Noah Pearen. 

  • In the second period, Aidan French extended the lead to 3-0, finishing a play set up by White. 

  • Northwood took full control in the third period. Iavasile made it 4-0 with assists from Sanborn and Carter Remp. Ciesielski added his second goal of the night to push the lead to 5–0, assisted by Iavasile and Sanborn. Remp followed with a goal of his own to make it 6-0, set up by Connor Stempky and French. Iavasile capped the scoring with his second goal of the game, finishing off a feed from Remp to seal the 7–0 victory. 

  • Goaltender David Girling turned aside every shot he faced, earning his first shutout of the season.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Northwood came out flying in the first period, scoring five times to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Sanborn opened the scoring with assists from Ciesielski and Pearen. French added a power-play goal, set up by Boston Bennett and Colton LaRose. LaRose followed with a power-play goal of his own, assisted by Remp and French. French struck again later in the period, with help from White and Thomas Kroll. Jerome Sciturro capped the first-period outburst with his first goal of the season, assisted by Nickolas Moody and Benjamin Bolen. 

  • Ferris State got on the board to make it 5-1, but the Timberwolves responded with four more goals in the second period to take a 9-1 lead into the break. Bennett scored off feeds from Stempky and LaRose. Jeffery Millette netted his first goal of the season, assisted by Luke Ciciretto and Sciturro. Sciturro then added his second of the night, set up by Moody and Millette. Carter Keiser closed the period's scoring with his first goal of the season, assisted by Ciesielski and Sanborn. 

  • In the third period, French completed his hat trick to make it 10-1, with assists from Kroll and Millette. Sciturro answered with a hat trick of his own, scoring to push the lead to 11-1, assisted by Iavasile and Keiser. Ferris State added a goal to make it 11–2, but Millette responded with his second of the night, assisted by Bennett and Sciturro, to extend the lead to 12-2. The Bulldogs scored once late, but Northwood closed out to take home a 12-3 victory.
