Baseball Falls To Illinois-Springfield 4-1 To Open Season

The Northwood University baseball team opened their 2014 season with a 4-1 loss to Illinois-Springfield Friday night (February 28).

The game was played at Georgetown College in Lexington, Kentucky.

UIS scored a single run in the second inning and then scored two more in the fifth to lead 3-0. Two Northwood errors were key in those run-scoring innings. NU got on the board in the eighth inning with a run to cut the margin to 3-1, but the Prairie Stars scored an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to round out the scoring.

Andrew Joseph (Sylvania, Ohio/Owens CC) allowed one earned run in 5 1/3 innings of work. He struck out four while allowing five hits. Lars Cronkright (Midland, Mich./Kellogg CC) had a pair of hits in his first game at Northwood, while Anthony Dipaolo (Northville, Mich./Divine Child) had a single and a run scored.

Northwood will play two more against UIS Saturday (March 1). First pitch is set for Noon.
