Baseball Loses At Wayne State 8-2
The Northwood University baseball team dropped an 8-2 contest at Wayne State Sunday afternoon (April 6).
The Timberwolves are now 10-15 overall, 3-9 in the GLIAC. Wayne State improves to 19-9 overall, 8-5 in the GLIAC.
Wayne State scored a run in the first inning to go up 1-0 early. Northwood responded with a run of their own in the third, thanks in large part to a one out triple by Tyler Beatty (Clare, Mich./Davenport). He then scored on a single by Daniel Pulver (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) to level the score at 1-1.
The score remained 1-1 until the Warriors put together a four-run fourth inning, which as keyed by a three-run bases-clearing double. Northwood cut the lead down to three in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Zyke Bailey (Taylor, Mich./HS Truman).
With the score 5-2, Wayne State closed the game out strong, scoring two in the seventh and one in the eight to close out the game.
WSU out-hit Northwood 10-6 for the game. Both teams drew five walks in the game.
Beatty led the NU offense, finishing with two hits in five at bats and a run scored. Travis Smith (Clare, Mich.) had a hit and a run scored, while Bailey had a hit and an RBI.
Steven Latos (Lloydminster, Alberta / Thompson Rivers U.) took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Northwood will host Rochester for a single game Tuesday night (April 8). First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
