Jordan Bischel Named Head Baseball Coach

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the hiring of Jordan Bischel as head baseball coach.

He becomes just the seventh head coach in the 49 year history of the program. Bischel replaces Joe Di Benedetto, who accepted another position within the department earlier this summer.

"We are very excited to have Jordan on board as our new baseball coach," said Dave Marsh, Northwood Athletic Director. "He has a track record of baseball success that we are confident will continue here at Northwood.

"Besides being an outstanding coach he has a proven great rapport with his players.  He is a very high caliber person who will quickly fit in with the Northwood family and in our community."

Bischel comes to Northwood after a pair of highly successful seasons as head coach of Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. Over the past two seasons, the Warriors registered 74 victories and a pair of appearances in the NAIA National Tournament.  He guided Midland to an 18 win improvement from the 2012 to the 2013 season (13 to 31). Then in 2014, the Warriors went 43-19 overall (.694) and won the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament.  The 43 victories were both Midland and GPAC records for wins in a season.

Prior to his arrival at Midland, Bischel had a great deal of success in a variety of coaching roles. He spent four seasons as the head coach of the Green Bay Bullfrogs, a member of the Northwoods League, which is made up exclusively of college players. He won 132 games in his four seasons as head coach of the Bullfrogs.

Bischel coached at three other schools before his time at Midland. He spent three seasons as the pitching coach at Northwest Missouri State. His 2011 staff registered the lowest ERA in the league (3.44) and helped guide the 2010 team to the Mid-America Athletics Association conference tournament. Prior to that, Bischel was an assistant at John Carroll and Saint Norbert College. While at Saint Norbert, the team won three straight division championships and earned its first at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

A four-year letterwinner at St. Norbert from 2000-03, Bischel played first base and was a pitcher for the Green Knights. He led the team in innings twice and was an Academic All-Conference honoree all four years. During his season campaign, Bischel was named a team captain and claimed All-Conference honors.

"I am thrilled to join such a tremendous institution," said Bischel. "Northwood and the Midland community will be an amazing spot for my wife, Katie, and I to settle.  We are incredibly excited to join the Northwood family and I cannot wait to bring tremendous passion to building a championship baseball program."
