Baseball Drops 8-3 Contest To Alderson-Broaddus

LAKELAND, FLA. – The Northwood University baseball team dropped an 8-3 contest to Alderson-Broaddus Tuesday afternoon (March 10).

Northwood is now 5-3 on the year. Alderson-Broaddus improves to 3-5 with the win.

The Timberwolves got on the scoring going in the bottom of the first inning. Travis Smith (Clare, Mich.) led the game off with a double. He later scored on a Tanner McCarn (Olivet, Mich.) fielder's choice, putting NU up 1-0.

NU then made it 2-0 in the third inning. Once again, Smith led the inning off with a double and later scored on a ground out by Nick Barrientos (Zionsville, Ind./Danville Area CC) to make the score 2-0.

The Battlers took control of the game in the fourth inning, plating five runs. ABU then scored one in the seventh and two in the eighth to go up 8-2. Northwood got one back in the ninth on a Dylan Trimarchi (Pasadena, Calif./Glendale CC) RBI single that plated Barrientos.

For the game, the Battlers out-hit Northwood 13-9. Both teams squandered scoring opportunities in the game – Northwood left 13 runners on base while Alderson-Broaddus left 14.

Smith finished the game with two hits, a walk and two runs scored. Trimarchi had two hits and an RBI.

Northwood will play Ohio Dominican in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday morning (March 11). First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
