Baseball Downs Aquinas 13-3

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball team picked up a 13-3 road win over Aquinas Tuesday afternoon (April 28).

The contest was the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Timberwolves. NU is now 25-20 on the season. Aquinas falls to 19-26 with the loss.

The first inning was eventful for both teams – Northwood scored a pair of runs in the top of the first while Aquinas responded with three of their own in the bottom of the inning. But from that point on, it was all Northwood. The Timberwolves scored two in the third, four in the fourth, three in the fifth and two more in the eighth to earn the win. Aquinas had just one over the final eight innings of the game.

Overall, Northwood out-hit the Saints 9-4. The Timberwolves also drew 10 walks in the game and had four extra base hits.

Travis Smith (Clare, Mich.) had the big hit of the game – his fourth inning grand slam put the Timberwolves up by five runs. Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) had four runs scored in the game, while Dylan Trimarchi (Pasadena, Calif./Glendale CC) went 2-3 with a double and two RBIs. Five Northwood relievers held Aquinas scoreless over the final six innings of the game.

Northwood will travel to Tiffin for a weekend series to wrap up the regular season beginning Saturday (May 2). First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
