Baseball Ranked Fifth In NCBWA Midwest Region Preseason Poll - Gwizdala/Vinsky Named All-Region
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball team is ranked fifth in the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason Poll.
The Timberwolves were ranked second in the Midwest Region according to the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason Poll.
Northwood finished with 40 points. Bellarmine is ranked first, finishing with 75 points and four first-place votes. Illinois-Springfield was one point behind in second, standing with 74 points on three first place votes. Ashland (third), Northwood and Grand Valley State (eighth) are the only Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams ranked in the poll.
In addition, the NCBWA released their Preseason All-Region teams. Northwood placed two players on the First Teams: junior outfielder David Vinsky and senior relief pitcher Lennon Gwizdala
Northwood finished the 2018 season 38-16 overall, winning both the GLIAC and GLIAC Tournament Championships. Over the past two seasons, Northwood has gone 84-29 overall, winning the GLIAC and GLIAC Tournament championship twice as well as reaching the NCAA Tournament both years.
