RECAP: Northwood baseball bounces back with two wins over Malone Saturday (March 28), earning 6-1 and 16-6 victories.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • Northwood opened the scoring in the first inning on a Caden Duryea two-out double to go up 1-0.
  • Malone responded with a run in the top of the second to tie the score.
  • The Timberwolves went on top for good in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Spencer Fortier.
  • Mike Wouters made it 3-1 on a sacrifice bunt.
  • Duryea extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Duryea two-run home run that made the score 5-1.
  • Brennan Hallman rounded out the scoring on a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Lucas McKinney tossed his second straight complete game, allowing one run in seven innings of work.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS (SCHEDULED FOR NINE INNINGS)

  • Malone plated a pair of runs in the first for the early lead.
  • Josh Getz tied the score for Northwood in the bottom of the second on a two-run single.
  • Duryea connected on his second home run of the day in the bottom of the third, a two-run shot that made the score 4-2.
  • Anthony Manganello followed with an RBI triple and later stole home to make the score 5-2 after three innings.
  • Northwood broke the game open in the fourth inning, starting with an Evan Larson solo home run.
  • Kavalick and Manganello each had RBI singles to push the NU advantage to 8-2.
  • A Malone error brought home two more runs to give Northwood a 10-2 lead.
  • The Pioneers scored one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to get back within five at 11-6.
  • Northwood came right back with a big seventh inning to close out the game. Getz connected on a three-run homer to get the lead back to seven at 13-6.
  • After Hallman scored on a wild pitch, Kavalick drove in the winning run on a RBI single.
  • That run put the Timberwolves up 10 in the seventh inning, ending the contest on the run rule.
