Esports Sends Seven Varsity Teams to Waco for National Championship Weekend
MIDLAND, MICH. – Northwood University Esports is set for one of its biggest weekends of the year, as seven varsity teams travel to Waco, Texas, from April 30 through May 4 to compete in the 2026 Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup (CECC) and the PlayVS College League (PCL) Spring National Championships.
Qualified Teams:
Varsity Overwatch
Varsity Rocket League
Varsity Valorant
Varsity Super Smash Bros.
Varsity League of Legends
Varsity Counter-Strike 2
Varsity Marvel Rivals
The 2026 Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup serves as the premier collegiate esports event and the culmination of the 2025–2026 competitive season. Unlike traditional league-based LAN events, CECC participation is granted strictly through invitation, bringing together the top programs from across the country.
Northwood's Overwatch and Rocket League teams earned direct invitations following their championship performances at the PCL Fall Championship in Akron this past December. Meanwhile, the Valorant and Super Smash Bros. rosters secured their spots through regional qualifiers. Each title featured at CECC—Overwatch, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., and Valorant—will include 24 of the nation's top collegiate programs competing for a national championship.
Taking place alongside CECC at the same venue, the PlayVS College League Spring National Championships will highlight additional titles within the PCL ecosystem. While the Fall Championship focused on CECC titles, the Spring event showcases the league's other competitive games. Northwood's League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, and Marvel Rivals teams will represent the program in this national competition.
In total, Northwood Esports will bring more than 50 students to Waco for the weekend, aiming to cap off a successful season by adding seven national titles to the program's trophy case.
