Esports: Northwood Smash Bros. Closes Season with Strong Performance at Patchwork 2026

MIDLAND, MICH. – Northwood University Esports concluded its 2025-26 competitive season with a strong showing at Patchwork 2026, one of the premier Super Smash Bros. tournaments in the Carolinas. Featuring both Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Smash Bros. Melee competitions, the event attracted more than 500 competitors from across the country.

Competitors:

  • Luis "Lui$" Oceguera
  • Tyler "Frostbyte" Amos
  • Jackson "Kople" Wallace
  • Logan "SpringyL" Neubecker

All four Northwood competitors participated in both the collegiate crew battles and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate singles competition. In the collegiate crew battles event, the Timberwolves earned a third-place finish, trailing only Winthrop University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Northwood also delivered impressive results in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate singles bracket, the primary competitive format within the Smash community. Competing against a field of 302 entrants, each Timberwolf competitor secured a notable finish. Logan "SpringyL" Neubecker placed 49th overall, while Jackson "Kople" Wallace and Tyler "Frostbyte" Amos each earned a tie for 17th place. Leading the way for Northwood was Luis "Lui$" Oceguera, who finished in 7th place, securing a top-eight placement against some of the nation's top competitors.

The event served as a fitting conclusion to another successful year for Northwood Esports. Throughout the season, the program continued to demonstrate its ability to compete at the highest levels of collegiate esports while providing student-athletes opportunities to test themselves against elite competition from across the country.

With Patchwork 2026 now complete, the Northwood Esports competitive season has officially come to a close. The Timberwolves will look to carry this momentum into the Fall 2026 semester, with regular-season competition expected to begin again in mid-September.
