Michael Fisher Earns Second Team Academic All-America Honors From CoSIDA

2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Football Team

MIDLAND, MICH. – Michael Fisher (Rochester, Mich./Adams), a sophomore linebacker on the Northwood University football team, has been named Second Team Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

Fisher turned in an outstanding season on the field for the Timberwolves. He was named First Team All-GLIAC, thanks to leading the conference in tackles (120) and tackles per game (11.5) while ranking 16th nationally. Fisher earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors in the final week of the season, finishing with 10 tackles, an interception return for a touchdown and a fumble recovery in NU's win over Malone. He registered at least 10 tackles in seven games this season.

Fisher becomes the first Northwood football player to earn any form of All-America honors since Charleston Hughes in 2006. Fisher is also the first football player to earn Academic All-America honors since 1992 (Chip Lott).
