INSIDE THE GAME

  • Northwood scored the first points of the game around the midway point of the opening quarter. A seven-play, 38-yard drive ended with a Drew Cady 30-yard field goal to make the score 3-0.
  • Ashland's special teams made the first big play of the game late in the first, returning a blocked punt 35 yards for a touchdown to put the Eagles on top 7-3.
  • AU extended their lead in the second with a 73-yard drive. Their touchdown made the score 14-3 with 9:28 remaining in the half.
  • Northwood responded with three points on their next possession. NU's 50-yard drive in six plays ended with a Drew Cady 32-yard field goal. Those were the final points of the opening, giving Ashland a 14-6 lead at the break.
  • AU used a 10-play, 81-yard drive in the third quarter that took up over seven minutes of game time to find the end zone once again, moving the Eagles lead up to 21-6.
  • Northwood found the end zone for the first time on the day late in the fourth to make it a one-possession game. NU went 80 yards on 11 plays, capped by an Ethan Hamby three-yard touchdown run to make the score 21-13 with 2:22 remaining.
  • NU's ensuing onside kick deflected off an Ashland player and was up for grabs, but went out of bounds before either team could recover.
  • Ashland ran out the remainder of the time, giving the Eagles the victory.
