Cole Simpson, Carter Minix Named To The D2CCA All-Super Region Three team

D2CCA RELEASE

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University football team placed two student-athletes on the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Super Region 3 team.

Senior Cole Simpson earned First Team honors, while redshirt freshman return specialist Cater Minix was placed on the Second Team.

Nominations and voting on the teams were conducted by Athletic Communication departments around the region.

Simpson led the Northwood defense in numerous categories this season, leading the team in tackles (93), forced fumbles (two) and interceptions (six). He led the G-MAC in interceptions while ranking second in the conference in tackles. Simpson ranked fifth in all of Division II in interceptions per game. A two-time Great Midwest Defensive Athlete of the Week, Simpson finished with at least five tackles in all 12 Northwood games.

Minix finished his first full season returning kicks making big plays both on kick and punt returns. He ended the year ranked No. 2 nationally in punt returns, averaging 17.7 per return. Minix also stood 25th in Division II in kickoff returns at 26.0 per return. He was one of just four players nationally that had both a kickoff return and a punt return for a touchdown this season.

Northwood finished the year 9-3 overall, its best record since 2005. The Timberwolves also made their first appearance in the NCAA Championship since 2006.
