Cole Simpson Named Second Team All-American By D2CCA

MIDLAND, MICH. – Cole Simpson, a senior defensive back from the Northwood University football team, has earned Second Team All-America honors from Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CAA), the organization announced Wednesday (December 17).

Athletic Communication professionals from around the country administered nomination and voting process.

Simpson turned in a tremendous senior season at Northwood, finishing the year with 93 tackles, six interceptions and two forced fumbles. He ranked fifth in Division II in interceptions and 70th in tackles. Simpson ended the season leading the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) in interceptions while standing third in forced fumbles and fourth in tackles. The Jackson Lumen Christi graduate registered at least five tackles in 11 of 13 games this season and earned G-MAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors twice.

Simpson is the first football All-American at Northwood since Dimitri Abro in 2019.

Northwood finished the year 9-3 overall, posting its most wins in a season since 2005. The Timberwolves earned their first NCAA Championship appearance since 2006.
