Men's Basketball Falls At Hillsdale 60-56
The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 60-56 contest to Hillsdale Thursday night (November 29).
The Timberwolves are now 1-4 overall, 0-1 in the GLIAC. Hillsdale improves to 4-0 overall, 1-0 in the GLIAC.
In the first half, the team teams played a tight, defensive game that saw neither team able to pull away. The largest lead for either team in the half was five points for NU at the 15:55 mark. The Timberwolves eventually led 27-26 at the break. NU shot 45.5 percent from the floor (10-22), compared to 38.5 percent for the Chargers (10-26). Northwood also finished with a 19-10 edge in rebounding, but the Chargers committed five fewer turnovers than Northwood (7-2).
The offenses picked up their games in the second, but the game remained close throughout. With the score tied 56-56 with less than 15 seconds remaining in the game, Hillsdale junior Tony Nelson connected on a 3-pointer, giving the Chargers the game-winning points. HC's four-point lead at the end of the game was their biggest of the game.
Overall, Northwood shot 50.0 percent (21-42), while Hillsdale finished at 43-1 percent (22-51). NU finished with a 33-22 edge on the board but committed eight more turnovers than Hillsdale (11-3).
Andrew VanDierenDonck (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) led the way for Northwood, finishing with game-high totals in points (15) and rebounds (8). He was the lone Timberwolf in double figures.
Northwood will travel to Findlay Saturday (December 1). Game time is set for 1 p.m.
