Men's Basketball Loses At No. 16 Findlay 84-72

The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped an 84-72 contest to No. 16 Findlay Saturday afternoon (December 1).

Northwood is now 1-5 overall, 0-2 in the GLIAC.  Findlay improves to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves scored the first seven points of the game to take the early advantage, but the Oilers were the better team for the rest of the half.  The score was tied 23-23 with 6:20 remaining in the half when Findlay went on a key run.  UF scored 21 points in the final 6:16 of the half and opened up a 44-32 lead at the break.  The Oiler's 3-point shooting was the key – they went 7-13 (53.8 percent) from beyond the arc in the half to earn the lead. 

Northwood cut the lead down to 50-43 early in the second half, but Findlay responded by scoring 14 straight points to go up 64-43.  The Timberwolves got no closer than nine the rest of the way. 

Overall, Northwood shot 41.7 percent from the floor (25-60).  Findlay finished at 50.0 percent (29-58).  The Oilers shot 40.0 percent from 3-point range (10-25), compared to 26.9 for the Timberwolves (7-26). 

Andrew VanDierenDonck (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) led Northwood in scoring for the game, finishing with 20.  Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper) added 18 points and nine rebounds.

Northwood will host Walsh Thursday night (December 6).  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
