Men's Basketball Loses At Michigan Tech 82-70
The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped an 82-70 contest at Michigan Tech Thursday night (February 21).
Northwood falls to 11-13 overall, 10-10 in the GLIAC. Michigan Tech improves to 17-7 overall, 14-6 in the GLIAC.
Michigan Tech's offense came out hot early on, opening up a 16-6 lead less than four minutes into the game. The Timberwolves chipped away at the lead down the stretch, eventually taking their first lead at 25-24 with 6:50 remaining in the half. NU eventually led 34-30 with 1:44 left the half, but the Huskies scored seven points just over a minute to take a 37-34 lead to the locker room. Northwood shot 44.0 percent from the floor (11-25), compared to 52.0 percent for Michigan Tech (13-25). NU connected on all 11 of their free throw attempts in the opening 20 minutes.
The score was 49-47 Michigan Tech with 13:30 to go in the game when the Huskies went on what proved to be the key run of the game. MTU scored 15 of the next 17 points to go up 64-49. Northwood got no closer than eight points in the final nine minutes.
For the game, Northwood finished at 48.1 percent overall from the floor (25-52). Michigan Tech finished at 54.5 percent (24-44). MTU also went 7-10 from 3-point range in the game.
Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper CC) led Northwood with 26 points. He went 8-13 from the floor, 3-4 from 3-point range and 7-7 from the foul line. Wilcox also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich. /South Lake) had 11 points and five rebounds, while Cameron Joyce (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent St. Mary's) and Darvin Ham (Saginaw, Mich./Bridgeport) each added 10.
Northwood will travel to Northern Michigan Saturday (February 23). Game time is set for 1 p.m.
